How do we explain this, especially since our critics are quick to point it out? Holy Reich: Nazi conceptions of Christianity, 1919-1945. This process is by no means complete, and it is unlikely that a society will ever completely “privatize” ethnicity and religion. Outsiders would agree that Tenrikyo has emerged as something identifiably distinct from traditional Shinto religion, although many world religion writers include Tenrikyo in chapters on Shinto or Japanese religion for simplicity's sake. (These books can only have a limited number of chapters.) Based on these facts (and because we have no limit on the number of religions we can include on this list), we include Tenrikyo as a distinct religion.

Religious groups have always been the greatest opposers of free speech and the main form which this opposition takes is their stance against "blasphemy", which is often defined so widely as to be an instrument of theocracy. There were no more than 50 Chinese in town, including these students. I must admit, I was altogether taken with his bold certitude and quasi-rational approach to questions regarding the veracity of the fundamental claims of the religion. The activities of the Christian missionaries and the politics of East India Company led to the Mutiny of 1857, after which the British Government adopted a policy of secularism and kept itself aloof from the politics of religion and conversions.
