I wish I could help you, as I only remember what my kids read a long time ago in grade one and it was simple, but not too simple. However, after the last chapter I had tears in my eyes and went back to read the beginning again. Because failing teaches you invaluable lessons, and if you decide to continue after you hit the pavement, the more you have it in you to deliver. The Teaching Company also has a set of lectures on the history of mathematics which covers much of the same material as the history of science set does, however, with much more mathematical detail that students who have studied Pre-Calculus will be able to appreciate- A History of Mathematics.
