Returning to the comment which spurred this post, I asked myself why I’d want to write for the New York Times and if I would do it if given the chance. Maybe there's an unusual colour scheme in shop windows or buildings, a pedestrian who causes you to stop and look, or an absence of something that you'd expect to find in the area. In Italian these cliffs are called Le Balze, some are as much as 100m high. If you apply them and work at learning your craft from the ground up, you’ll be getting closer to writing – and selling – your travel stories.

According to many historical sources, the Church of Nativity is the exact birthplace of Jesus Christ. When I read travel articles I assume a truth. So I definitely wanted us to return for our girls’ getaway to South Africa. We know that visitors and armchair tourists love to ooh and ahh over Morocco’s unique doors and bright colors. In reality, I had stumbled (quite literally, thanks to sleep deprivation and a misplaced cobblestone) into a café a few blocks from my apartment on the far side of the ancient Ponte Vecchio Bridge.
